Y2K targets Rachel Zegler in trailer and poster for A24 horror film

The year 2000 is real and it’s targeting Rachel Zegler. A24 has released the first poster and trailer for its latest horror film. Year 2000led by Saturday Night Live Alumnus Kyle Mooney in his directorial debut.




Year 2000 follows two high school students — It‘s Jaeden Martell and Deadpool 2‘s Julian Dennison – when they crash a New Year’s Eve party on the last night of 1999. When the clock strikes midnight, everything goes wrong and the duo must fight for their lives. The disaster horror comedy also features several familiar faces, including Lachlan Watson (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Mason Gooding (Scream VI), Eduardo Franco (Stranger Things), rapper The Kid Laroi and Alicia Silverstone (Clueless), with Mooney also appearing in a supporting role. Year 2000 had its world premiere on March 9, 2024 at South by Southwest, where the film received mostly positive reviews. Year 2000 currently holds a 61 percent rating on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. The site’s consensus reads: “Year 2000 scores with ambition and sheer audacity, even if it struggles to generate laughs while maintaining a chaotic sound mix.”



What’s next for Rachel Zegler?

Year 2000 is the latest high-profile project for Zegler following her breakthrough role as María in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story (2021), followed by a supporting role in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and a leading role in The Hunger Games – The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (both 2023). Fans will then be able to hear their voices in Skydance Animation’s Banished as Princess Ellian. Looking ahead to 2025, Zegler will star in Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfsin which she plays the titular princess. The highly anticipated – and somewhat controversial – remake recently had its first trailer at this year’s D23 event, where it received mixed reviews from the Disney fanbase, with many noting that the CGI looked unfinished.

At this point, Zegler has no releases planned for after 2025, although the actor has discussed a possible return to The Hunger Games Franchise as Lucy Gray Baird. During the promotion Year 2000 At SXSW earlier this year, Zegler admitted that she did not know what Lionsgate was planning for The Hunger Gamesalthough she believes Lucy survived the events of the 2023 prequel film. “I don’t know. It’s not up to me, but as Olivia Rodrigo said, ‘She’s in the trees, she’s in the breeze,'” Zegler said, referring to the singer’s song “Can’t Catch Me Now,” which played during the prequel film’s end credits. “So, I don’t actually know what’s going to happen. I for one like to believe she’s alive.” As for the chances of a Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Part IIadded the actor, “I really hope so. It would be so much fun to go back.”


Year 2000 will be in theaters on December 6th.
