Russian soldier allegedly tortured civilians near Kyiv to obtain information about Ukrainian troops

Ukrainian security forces have filed charges in absentia against a Russian serviceman who shot and tortured a resident of the Kyiv region at the beginning of the invasion in order to obtain information from him about the locations of Ukrainian army units.

This is a statement from the Kyiv regional prosecutor’s office, reports Ukrinform.

The suspect, who was serving as a rifleman in the 15th Separate Motorized Guards Rifle Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces at the time, is accused of violating the laws and customs of war.

According to the investigation, in March 2022 he was stationed in the village of Bohdanivka, Brovary District.

He encountered a local resident and shot him in the leg in an attempt to arrest him. He then approached the injured man, held a knife to his throat and demanded that he provide information about the locations of Ukrainian military units.

Together with other Russian soldiers, the perpetrator kidnapped his victim and took him to the local school, where he was held and interrogated for another five days.

As Ukrinform previously reported, the SBU Security Service brought charges in absentia against two Russian soldiers who tortured and murdered Colonel Telizhenko, deputy rector of the SBU National Academy, at the beginning of the all-out war.
