Smith Farm Public Hearing, Staunton Work Session Well Attended: THE AGENDA

Waynesboro City Council moves District Home to public hearing

WAYNESBORO – During its first meeting in August, the Waynesboro City Council agreed to hold a public hearing on the Smith Farm/District Home housing project on August 26.

On August 15, The News Leader published a detailed report on the history and current issues surrounding the potential 147-acre residential development near Hopeman Parkway.

The property would include 400 new housing units developed by Stockbridge OPCO LLC, 60 acres of parkland, a 3/4-mile greenway, a playground, picnic areas and community gardens. It would also preserve the land already protected on the site, maintain a family cemetery currently on the site and demolish the old District Home building.

Staunton City Council holds a well-attended work session

STAUNTON – The agenda for the Staunton City Council’s 7 p.m. regular meeting this week includes just two items: the consent agenda and a request for funds on behalf of Staunton schools to finance renovations to Shelburne Middle School.

In contrast, the working session at 5 p.m. has a full agenda.

The City Council and Staunton Planning Commission will first hold a joint meeting to discuss a draft plan for the revitalization of the West End. City staff and EPR, PC created the plan following several community meetings held earlier this year.

The joint meeting will then provide an overview of the ongoing Staunton Comprehensive Plan update project.

Once the council is back in session, Registrar General Christi Linhoss will speak about the upcoming general election in November. Then, City Appraiser Doug Flinn will provide an overview of the upcoming reassessment process.

Finally, the council discusses staff matters, particularly the performance of the city manager and the city attorney, in a closed session.
