Texas truck driver wins $50,000 Powerball prize during pit stop in Maryland

BALTIMORE, MD – A Texas truck driver’s routine stop at a Pilot Travel Center in Maryland resulted in a $50,000 Powerball win. After delivering a load in Hagerstown, he bought a few Powerball and Mega Millions tickets at the Pilot Travel Center on Greencastle Pike before hitting the road.

Using a combination of random numbers and family birthdays, the driver purchased two Powerball tickets for the July 15 drawing. It wasn’t until three days later, during another long drive, that he checked his tickets online and discovered he had won a third-tier prize.

“I was out and about again and decided to check my tickets on the Powerball website,” the San Benito resident said. After calling his son to confirm, the family celebrated the news that he matched four white balls and the red Powerball, winning a $50,000 prize.

Due to Powerball rules, he had to return to Maryland to claim his winnings. His company adjusted his route to make his trip easier so he could claim his winnings. Accompanied by his wife, he picked up the prize in Baltimore and planned to put it toward his retirement savings.

The winner is in luck, as just a few weeks earlier he matched four numbers on a Powerball ticket. His prize is one of 36 $50,000 Powerball Third Category tickets sold in Maryland this year. In today’s Powerball drawing, you have a chance to win a $185 million annuity or a $92.1 million cash option.
