Broncos QB Battle Stock Report after 27-2 win over Packers

Broncos Country, the search for a franchise quarterback is over. The presiding judge, Denver Broncos Head coach Sean Payton will announce his decision and the matter is clear.

Rookie quarterback Bo Nix will be the Broncos’ starter this season. With a preseason performance that separated the contenders from the losers, Nix has outperformed his competition and proven that he is not just another name on the leaderboard, but the future of the franchise.

From his first snap to his last drive against the Green Bay PackersNix demonstrated why Broncos faithful have reason to believe their long quarterback drought is finally over. His performance wasn’t just good; it was a textbook example of how to prepare for a potential meeting, all under the watchful eye of a coach who knows how to mold a signal-caller.

Here’s an instant stock report for each Broncos quarterback from the team’s 27-2 victory over the Packers in the second preseason game.

Nix’s performance against the Packers was more than impressive and left no doubt that he deserves the starting position. His decision-making, ball placement and athleticism fit perfectly into Payton’s offensive scheme.

The rookie showed a maturity beyond his years, flying down the field with the speed and precision of a seasoned veteran. Nix completed 8 of 9 passes for 80 yards, averaging an incredible 10.0 yards per attempt, which speaks volumes about his efficiency. Nix threw one touchdown with no interceptions while maintaining a flawless 140.7 passer rating, showing he can handle the pressure of leading an NFL offense.

Payton’s plays seem to be tailored to Nix’s strengths, allowing the young quarterback to easily adapt to the Packers’ defensive formation and personnel. One of the standout elements of Nix’s game was his ability to distribute the ball, involve all position groups and keep the defense guessing.

The rookie always had his eyes on the field, a trait that will only benefit him as he continues to grow in Payton’s offense. Broncos fans finally have a reason to believe they have found a long-term solution at the quarterback position.

As a backup, Stidham is more than capable. He understands Payton’s offense, is now in his second year, and has the experience to make the plays.

Stidham completed 7 of 11 passes for 65 yards, a solid 9.3 yards per attempt average, but his lack of ability from distance was evident.

Stidham had an assured but ultimately uninspiring game, his lone interception a blot on an otherwise solid performance. His 41.9 passer rating suggests he can manage the game but may need more time to win it.

Stidham’s preference for short passes to the middle of the field shows a conservative approach. Nevertheless, in the NFL, if you don’t take risks, you don’t stand a chance.

Still, Stidham flashed his athleticism with a remarkable sprint into the end zone, reminding everyone that he can be a dual threat when needed.

The third man had a rough outing, but it wasn’t entirely his fault. The Broncos’ third offensive line played like it was trying to clear fans out of the Empower Field parking lot before the game ended, and Wilson was left to fend for himself.

Under relentless pressure, Wilson completed just 2 of 6 passes for 29 yards. His 14.5 yards per attempt average and 89.6 passer rating show potential, but the two sacks and safety he suffered were costly mistakes. It’s clear that Wilson has some skill, but his performance under pressure was anything but reassuring.

The clouds have finally lifted over Denver and the Broncos’ quarterback drought appears to be over. Nix’s preseason performance against the Packers was a glimmer of hope, suggesting that the Broncos may have finally found their franchise quarterback after a string of failures following Super Bowl 50.

The partnership between Payton and Nix has the potential to be a match made in heaven and stands in stark contrast to the respected coach’s short and turbulent relationship with Russell Wilson.

But as with any new marriage, Broncos Country will have to prepare for some obstacles. The road to success is rarely easy, but with Nix at the helm, there’s every reason to believe better days are ahead.
