Delaware State Police Investigate Wrong-Way Driver Accident Near Middletown

Two people died in a wrong-way driving accident near Middletown early Sunday morning, Delaware State Police said.

According to Delaware State Police, the accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 18, on Dupont Parkway near Harris Road.

Investigators determined that a blue 2022 Honda Civic was traveling southbound on Dupont Parkway when it was struck head-on by a black 2015 Jeep Wrangler traveling north in the same lane.

The driver of the Honda, a 62-year-old man, and the passenger, a 51-year-old woman, both of Smyrna, died at the scene. Their names are being withheld until their next of kin are notified.

The driver of the Jeep, a 28-year-old woman from Massey, Maryland, suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.

During the investigation, the highway was closed for about four hours.

State police are asking witnesses to contact Troop 2’s Collision Reconstruction Unit, which continues to investigate the accident. Witnesses should call Master Cpl. J. Forester at 302-365-8485.
