Marquette poll shows Harris and Trump nearly even in Wisconsin • Wisconsin Examiner

According to a new poll by the Marquette Law School Poll, Republican former President Donald Trump and Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris are separated by just one percentage point in the presidential election in Wisconsin.

Trump is supported by 50 percent of registered voters in the poll, while Harris is supported by 49 percent in a direct comparison. Among likely voters, the ratio is reversed: 50 percent choose Harris and 49 percent choose Trump.

When other candidates are included, Harris is slightly ahead among both registered voters and likely voters. Harris is favored by 45 percent of registered voters and 46 percent of likely voters; Trump is the choice of 43 percent of registered voters and 45 percent of likely voters.

Among the other candidates, only Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is preferred by more than 1 percent of respondents: 8 percent of registered voters and 6 percent of likely voters.

The poll result, released Wednesday, is the first from the Marquette poll since President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential race and Harris stepped in as the Democratic candidate.

In the previous Marquette poll, conducted before the late June debate in which Biden’s performance led to growing calls for the president to abandon his re-election bid, Biden and Trump were tied at 50% each among registered voters. Among likely voters, Biden received 51% and Trump 49%.

The new poll shows Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin has the support of 53% of respondents among registered voters, seven percentage points ahead of her likely Republican challenger Eric Hovde at 46%. Among likely voters, Baldwin leads with 52% to Hovde’s 47%.

The poll was conducted from July 24 – three days after Biden dropped out on July 21 and endorsed Harris – through August 1 and ended five days before Harris named Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her vice presidential running mate.

The poll surveyed 877 registered Wisconsin voters, 801 of whom were considered likely voters. The results have a margin of error of 4.6 percentage points for registered voters and 4.8 percentage points for likely voters.
