Cillian Murphy’s son Aran lands new film role alongside Jenna Ortega

Cillian Murphy’s teenage son Aran will star in a new film alongside Jenna Ortega.

Deadline reports that he will play the character Rick in director Taika Waititi’s 2021 adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s dystopian novel “Klara and the Sun,” following his feature film debut in “LOLA” in 2022.

Mia Tharia, who has previously only appeared in the BBC series “Phoenix Rise,” has also joined a cast that already includes “Wednesday” actress Ortega and Amy Adams from “Arrival.”

The story, adapted by Mad Men screenwriter Dahvi Waller, revolves around the “artificial friend” Klara, an android that a mother bought for her sick daughter Josie.

“This is the story of Klara’s quest to save Josie and those who love her from heartbreak, and how Klara learns the power of human love in the process,” the synopsis continues.

Previous Ishiguro film adaptations include the clone drama “All We Had to Give” and “The Remains of the Day” starring Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson. The US broadcaster FX cancelled a planned series adaptation of the former at this time last year.

And all this happens while Aran’s famous father is nominated for an Oscar for his work on Christopher Nolan’s World War II hit “Oppenheimer.”

Speaking to the above publication about this honor, Murphy said: I feel really privileged and lucky to be part of a film that is resonating so well with people, both critically and at the box office.

“I’m 48, I’ve seen a lot and I’ve been doing this for 28 years now. So I think I can understand how important this is to me and how meaningful it is to me and other people. You know, I’ve been in the business for a long time. I think when I was young, something like this just didn’t seem possible.”

There is no release window yet for “Klara and the Sun.”
