Bride revokes her “sister’s” wedding invitation after insulting the groom

A woman shares on Reddit her decision to uninvite her “sister” from her wedding after she insulted her future husband.

“I (24, f) and my (22, m) fiancé are getting married in 2025. We have been together since 2021, but have gone to the same school all these years. To put this into context, I have two ‘sisters’ (18 and 15) in whose lives I have lived since they were born, but we are neither blood nor family related. They lived on my street and I looked after them, played with them, and went on trips together. Around January 2023, they moved about an hour away from our hometown. I have considered them my family for over 15 years, I have called them mom, dad, and my sisters, and now I am at a loss for words,” the woman said.

The woman says the conflict began in April when she and her friend argued about her fiancé.

“In April of this year, my 18-year-old sister and I got into an argument over my fiancé. I was fed up with her dad and her constantly calling him lazy, saying he wasn’t working, and making fun of him at work while complaining to the boss that he wasn’t doing anything. Her dad, we’ll call him K for short (in his 40s), is a subcontractor for my fiancé’s old boss (he quit the job because of this). K started messing things up at construction sites just to ‘test’ my fiancé’s knowledge, even though he knew he had been working there for 3 years now. Her parents and my mom eventually got involved and that honestly just made things worse,” she revealed.

“Long story short, my sisters’ mom said ‘I don’t give a shit about the fiancé, you can keep your ass over there’ and then tried to say that my fiancé was trying to fire him from his job. (My fiancé is a worker in every sense of the word, he doesn’t have the power to fire anyone). Then my ‘sister’ tried to make me feel guilty by saying her dad was always there for me and I should stick up for him since he’s my dad too. My biological father died when I was 16 by suicide and he has been ‘filling in for events’ ever since because he ‘cared for me’ but it felt more like he was trying to replace him and he didn’t even show up to my culinary school graduation and gave no reason why. In reality, from the moment I moved away for college in 2019, he has been absent and doesn’t show up to events or graduations, but gets upset when I can’t get away from work to go somewhere,” the woman continued.

“Well… since April, they haven’t apologized, tried to talk to me, or even acknowledged me. My 18-year-old sister only texts me when she needs money, and my 15-year-old sister hasn’t even spoken to me since all this happened. Before all this happened, I had invited her as part of the wedding. Now I’m not even inviting her, and people are starting to find out and question me and wonder why. They think I’m overreacting, but I think it’s justified,” she concluded, before asking if she was in the wrong about the situation.

In the comments section of the post, people agreed that the woman was not wrong.

“Nta. Even if they were family members, it’s your wedding. You can do what you want and invite whoever you want,” one person said.
