Man exposed himself to students near a bus stop in Maricopa, school district says

The Maricopa The Unified School District is warning parents after a suspected speed camera incident Thursday evening.

According to the school district, a 30-year-old man driving a gray Toyota Corolla exposed himself to a student near Bedford Drive and Rancho El Dorado Parkway on August 15.

FOX 10 contacted Maricopa police for more information.

The school district advises parents to review the following safety tips with their children:

Advice for children

  • Never go anywhere with someone you don’t know. Always stay in areas where you can be seen by others.
  • Stay away from adults who ask for help. If someone asks for directions or claims to need help, stay away.
  • Do not let strangers into your house. Do not open the door to unknown people, no matter what reason they give.
  • If you feel uncomfortable or scared, walk away. Trust your instincts and leave the situation.
  • If someone grabs you, react quickly. Spin your arm like a windmill, scream loudly and run away.
  • When cycling, keep the bike between you and the adult. This creates a barrier and helps maintain distance.

Advice for parents

  • Supervise your children closely when they are outside your home or at the park.
  • Make sure all outdoor activities are supervised. Children should not be left unattended in public areas.
  • Teach your children to use any phone in an emergency and call 911.
  • Encourage your children to say “no” when something feels wrong or makes them uncomfortable.
  • Update your child’s photo regularly. Take a photo at least once a year, and more often if your child is younger than 5 years old.

“We hope these tips will help you talk to your children about safety,” the district added. “Please take time to have this important conversation and emphasize the importance of staying safe and reporting any concerning activity to a trusted adult. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact Maricopa Police.”
