BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A man posing as an Amazon delivery driver was caught by police stealing a phone that had been delivered moments before. The Broward Sheriff’s Office shared this report with BocaNewsNow.com:

The guy looked legit—wearing an Amazon vest, carrying a box in one hand and a cell phone in the other. He appeared ready to deliver and record a delivery to a home in Broward County. But as the unsuspecting resident soon learned, the image on her Ring camera wasn’t of a delivery, but of a crime in progress.

Fortunately, the Broward Sheriff’s Office Burglary Investigation Team (BAT) rushed to the scene to catch the fake delivery boy and caught him with the stolen goods – an iPhone 15 Pro – in his car.

BSO BAT Detectives say they found the suspect’s car on Tuesday, August 13, a blue 2021 Honda Accord that was the suspected vehicle in a recent Parkland home burglary. While conducting surveillance on the car, detectives saw the suspect, later identified as Stanly Sabino Pimentel, enter a Deerfield Beach condominium, park in front of a home, and exit disguised as an Amazon delivery driver. Detectives say he then committed the above crime.

Detectives took Pimentel into custody a short time later. He was arrested on several charges, including burglary, grand theft, possession of a weapon during the commission of a second-degree felony, and obstructing traffic. Detectives continue to investigate Pimentel in connection with other similar crimes in Broward County.

Investigators say there are several steps individuals can take to avoid falling victim to package thieves. Investigators advise having items delivered to your office, arranging a delivery at a time when you are home, using a secure drop-off location provided by the delivery company, or asking a neighbor to pick up packages when you are not home.
