Minjee Lee leads the Women’s Scottish Open, which was postponed due to rain

Australian Minjee Lee leads the Women’s Scottish Open by one stroke after shooting a bogey-free five-under-par 67 on a rain-affected first day at Dundonald Links.

Wet conditions in Ayrshire caused delays and there were 42 golfers on the course when play was suspended shortly after 9pm (BST).

At this point, Lee had already beaten Megan Khang of the USA and A-Lim Kim of South Korea, who shared second place.

Englishwoman Lily May Humphreys is also at four under par, but had only played 12 holes at the time play was suspended.

Twelve golfers are two under par, including the English trio Bronte Law, Charley Hull and Georgia Hall, while Scotland’s Gemma Dryburgh opened with a score of four over par and 76 strokes.

New Zealand’s Lydia Ko, who had just won gold in Paris and thus her third Olympic medal since 2016, achieved a score of 69 strokes (three under par), including five birdies.

Leader Lee, a two-time major winner and chasing her first victory in 2024, retired at two under par before adding birdies on the final two par-5 holes of 10, 14 and 18.

“I like the creativity of links golf,” said Lee. “Of course, there was a lot of wind today, so it played like a real links course.”

“I didn’t enjoy playing. You only get rewarded if you do it right.”
