Steve Williams: President of the Welsh Football Association resigns

The President of the Football Association of Wales (FAW), Steve Williams, has resigned with immediate effect.

Williams was suspended in July pending the outcome of the investigation and has now decided to resign ahead of an independent hearing.

The Welsh Football Association did not disclose the reason for his suspension.

Williams will not only resign from his position as president, but will also give up all other positions at the FAW and will no longer sit on any of the boards.

The 60-year-old will not be able to run for office at the FAW in the future either.

Williams was elected FAW President in 2021 and had one year left in his term.

Before his election, he served as a member of the Council for more than two decades and held the office of Vice President.

As president, Williams oversaw the running of Welsh football at all levels and was involved in the sacking of Rob Page as manager of the Welsh men’s team in June.

A statement from the FAW said: “Following further discussions between the parties, Mr Stephen Williams has decided to resign from all his roles with the FAW.

“The FAW acknowledges the hard work and support that Stephen Williams has given to Welsh football and its development over the last 37 years, both nationally and internationally, as a football fan and President.”
