In an interview with AEW Unrestricted (via Fightful), AEW Vice President Of Content Development Jennifer Pepperman talked about why she joined the company. She mentioned that she wanted to continue working with Mercedes Mone, but decided to join AEW after meeting Tony Khan. Here are the highlights:

About the desire to continue working with Mone: “It started with a conversation with Mercedes. I worked very closely with her in WWE, so it started with this conversation about her having this really great opportunity to come to this really great company and would I be interested in going with her. First of all, I have to say that I admire Mercedes not only as a talent but as a person. She’s one of those people, she’s just really special. She’s someone who has pioneered this industry. People talk about breaking barriers and breaking glass ceilings and that’s exactly what Mercedes has done. She inspires me. I don’t think Mercedes knows how talented she is.”

To connect with Mone: “We just connected in a creative way. I love the creative process, and what I love most about that process is that it’s collaborative. I think the creative process is best when it’s collaborative, and Mercedes is a really great collaborator. We work really well together and I just believe in her so much. WWE has been a really great place for me, I’ve worked with a lot of great people, I have a lot of friends there. I wish them all the best. But for me, Mercedes and I, our working relationship was unique and special and it was a chance to continue that journey.”

About the meeting with Tony Khan: “When I met Tony Khan, I immediately wanted to work here. Because of his creativity, his passion, his joy and love for professional wrestling. His mind. Mercedes was the first step and when I met Tony, I had to be here.”
