How to spend the perfect movie night with your cat

I recently came home from a trip and I have to say – my two cats were NOT happy. They were constantly screaming at me and desperate for attention and love.

Since I’m a cat-obsessed woman, I decided to ask for her forgiveness the only way I know how: by spoiling her terribly. And to be honest, my introverted self was ready to hole up with my cats anyway, just to rest and recharge.

To absolve myself of my crimes and buy her love, I decided to host a small screening of my new favorite movie A quiet place: day one. I saw it twice in the cinema, but both times I felt like I was cheating my cats. The star of the film is none other than Frodo… a cat.

Honestly, my decision to rewatch the film at home with my cats may have been a little selfish—the best thing about watching a thriller at home is that you can use your fluffy stress reliever to calm down after all the jump scares.

But it’s not just humans who like to watch TV! There was even a study done on cats from animal shelters that found that they like to watch a little TV here and there, with “prey” and “movement” being the most exciting. Cats.com also says that cats like to see small animals moving on the screen and also seem to like more modern TVs. Cats are stuffy!

With that in mind, here’s what I think makes for a purr-fect (sorry, I couldn’t help it, it was just there) movie night for your cat.

Cinema snacks are a must

First of all – SNACKS. Snacks are the key to a great movie night, and I don’t have time for anyone who doesn’t like popcorn.

I think the cutest thing you can do for your furry friends is to make their own little popcorn box so they can snack with you. Fill it with their favorite treats or cat biscuits – but be warned, the crunch might come at an inopportune time. Like when someone dies. Maybe it can add to the ~atmosphere~? Come to think of it, cat grass might be a bit more movie-appropriate after all – especially for a movie that’s all about being quiet.

Get a cup of tea for you and your cat

This might be going too far (and I might be revealing my personality, which is 100 percent just my cats), but you can also have a cup of tea with your furry friends. With your coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, add some catnip and hot water to make catnip tea. Make sure to cool it down with some ice cubes before serving!

Make it a pajama party!

I also refuse to settle down on my sofa in “street clothes.” Pajamas, sweatpants, and anything super comfy is the way to go here. Bonus points for a fluffy bathrobe that your cats can bake bread in until their bakery finally opens.

However, if you’re trying to dress your pets in their own pajamas, it could be quite an undertaking. I once put my cat in a Chinese New Year lion costume and to say that didn’t go well would be an understatement.

Cuddle up in a heated blanket

The finishing touch is the right blanket. To keep it really warm, the electric blankets you can get from BIG W, for example, will lure your pets right onto your lap. Just make sure they don’t get too jealous of the cats on the screen.

Then just sit back, watch and pray that the cat survives A quiet place: day one – You don’t want to have this difficult conversations yet. You are still a baby!

“A Quiet Place: Day One” was released in theaters via express delivery and is now available to purchase or rent digitally.
