Former Dinuba school principal charged with murder after drunk driving accident near Reedley

TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) – A former Dinuba school principal faces murder charges after he was accused of driving while intoxicated and crashing into another car near Reedley, killing a mother and her daughter.

The above video is from a previous story and will be updated.

Blake Benham, 43, is accused of killing 55-year-old Gloria Barajas and her 35-year-old daughter Brenda Quinonez in the crash that occurred last December on Route 56 near Avenue 430.

The California Highway Patrol said Barajas and Quinonez were driving home from Christmas shopping at the Tulare Outlets with Gloria’s husband and younger daughter shortly after 6 p.m.

As the two were driving north in their Nissan Rogue, police say a Ford pickup truck driven by Benham crossed into their lane and collided head-on with the family’s SUV.

Barajas and Quinonez were killed in the crash, and their two other family members were taken to Community Regional Medical Center.

According to the CHP, Benham was under the influence of alcohol at the time of his accident.
