To celebrate the release of her brand new single ‘I Lied, I’m Sorry’, we asked alt-pop prodigy Chloe Qisha to take a stroll down memory lane and answer our ‘My Life in 20’ questions.

20) What movie could you watch 20 times without getting bored?

No movie, but I watch Band of Brothers at least 3-4 times a year… I love to sit down for a whole day, crochet and take on my final shape: that of a grandpa.

19) What topic could you talk about for 19 minutes straight without taking notes?

This is so niche…but during the pandemic, I somehow fell into a YouTube hole of watching Olympic figure skating in the 90s and quickly became obsessed with the super tragic love story of two Russian figure skaters. I even went so far as to read an autobiography and watch all of their interviews. I think if I wanted to, I could create an entire PowerPoint presentation about their lives and talk about them for hours. If you know, you know.

18) What was the most important thing that happened in your life when you were 18?

I was actually going to go to Edinburgh University to study psychology, but then I changed my mind at the last minute and decided to go to London instead. If I hadn’t ended up in that city, I would never have gotten into music, so I’m really grateful that I made that decision when I was 18.

17) Who did you have a crush on when you were 17?

I can’t tell you why, but I was obsessed with Chris Evans (the actor)! I think it was the Captain America uniform, haha.

16) What do you remember about your 16th birthday?

I remember saying goodbye to my crush at the end of my birthday party and him kissing me goodbye. I was so ecstatic that I ran back to my friend screaming with excitement.

15) What did you hate when you were 15 that you love today?

Short hair! I think my 15-year-old self would have cried if she saw me now (and not in a good way). But I can’t go back now!

14) What TV show were you obsessed with when you were 14 and why?

My whole circle of friends at school was obsessed with OneTreeHill. I remember watching it over and over again after a breakup and it was cult. When I hear the intro to “I Don’t Want to Be” by Gavin DeGraw, I go crazy.

13) 13 is an unlucky number for some. Are you superstitious about anything?

I don’t have any pre-show rituals yet, but I’m sure I’ll develop some. I’m definitely superstitious about a lot of things (you can’t grow up in a Malaysian family and not be that!).

12) If you could live someone else’s life for 12 hours, who would you be and why?

Just anyone who lives on this cat island in Japan… just because it seems like a great day trip to me to be on an island surrounded by cats for 12 hours.

11) Who was your best friend when you were 11?

My best friend at the time was probably my brother. We were brought up to be very close and I always looked up to him. However, when I turned 11 he was preparing to move to the UK to study, so life after that became particularly sad because he was no longer there…

10) What bad habit do you want to get rid of in 10 years?

I always pick up my phone when I’m even remotely bored. I’d love to swap mine for an old Nokia from 2007 and just call or text people.

9) What was your biggest fear when you were nine?

Math. I hated math and I still hate math. It was the source of all my angst in elementary school (I wish I was kidding). I’m pretty sure a teacher once made me cry in front of the whole class because I couldn’t answer a math question and it’s haunted me ever since.

8) When you were eight years old, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I think I wanted to be five different things at that age. A writer, a horse rider (not that I could ride), a vet, a wakeboarder and of course… a singer. Well, I did at least one of those things!

7) Which of the seven deadly sins are you most guilty of? How does it manifest itself in your life?

GLUTENING (say it with me!) I love to consume everything when I’m on my period.

6) You could invite six people (dead or alive) to your dream dinner party, who would you invite?

The introvert in me says that six people is a few too many for a dinner party; my dream meal would be at home with my boyfriend, best friend and cats, with lots of pizza.

5) Name five things you can’t live without.

  1. My cat
  2. My other cat
  3. My friend
  4. Mom’s Kitchen
  5. My guitar

4) Describe yourself in four words.

“Seemingly calm, but anxious”

3) Your three best songs of all time.

  • Talking Heads – “Once in a Lifetime”
  • Bee Gees – “Night Fever”
  • Boy meets girl – ‘Waiting for a star to fall’

2) Name two things on your bucket list.

To play at Glastonbury! That’s at the top of my bucket list. I would also love to live in Japan for a few months. I’ve been there a few times on holiday but I would absolutely love the opportunity to live there, write songs and get into a daily routine!

1) Who or what is your one true love?

My cat Linney. She is 1000% my soulmate. She just understands me, you know?
