Fire near rescue sites prompts new evacuations in El Dorado County – Folsom Times

Evacuations were ordered in El Dorado County Wednesday afternoon due to a rapidly spreading wildfire in the Rescue community north of Cameron Park and northeast of El Dorado Hills.

Firefighters from Cal Fire’s Amador-El Dorado Unit, Rescue Fire and El Dorado Hills Fire were dispatched to the incident, which originally broke out shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday near the 23000 block of Green Valley Road, south of Rescue. Evacuation orders were in effect as of 2:47 p.m. for areas along Green Valley Road between Starbuck Road to the east and Deer Valley Road. Evacuated areas within the evacuation zone include Buckhorn Lane, Four Springs Drive, Ridgeline Road, Four Springs Drive and Deer Oaks Drive. Additional evacuation warnings were issued for the community of Rescue itself.

Just before 2:30 p.m., the fire was reported to be 1-2 acres in size and spreading at a moderate rate through grass and oak woodland, according to fire officials. Within 10 minutes, the fire grew to 7 acres and five minutes later to 10-15 acres, posing a threat to structures in the area. Additional support from multiple agencies and an airstrike were also deployed.

At 3:07 p.m., dispatch reported that firefighters had slowed the spread of the fire. Additional evacuation warnings were issued for the north and east of the fire, which includes parts of the community of Rescue.
