It was the biggest wedding in Edmonton since the Gretzkys’ wedding over 35 years ago. And it didn’t even take place in Edmonton.

Oilers star Connor McDavid married his fiancée Lauren Kyle in Ontario in late July and hockey fans got a glimpse of the celebrations on Monday courtesy of Vogue Australia.

According to an article by Will Lennox, the wedding of “designer Lauren Kyle” and “ice hockey player Connor McDavid” took place in the “forests of Ontario during the Canadian summer, bringing with it a lot of vintage looks for their celebration.”

Some photos were published on Vogue’s Instagram page with great fanfare.

In the article, now Mrs. McDavid describes the Oilers star’s marriage proposal at their Muskoka cabin, with a “trail of flowers that led us to a beautiful patio” and her favorite song, “Only Love” by Ben Howard, which would also serve as the accompaniment for their first dance as husband and wife.

The wedding itself took place on Old Woman Island, with “lodge-style” accommodations and the rehearsal dinner on a converted steamship, according to the Vogue article.

While Kyle wore five dresses throughout the weekend, the wedding dress was a custom piece by Vivienne Westwood. McDavid is seen in pictures wearing a classic black tuxedo for the ceremony and a white jacket at the reception ball.

The ceremony itself took place on a floating dock right on the water.

The after-party photos also include shots of his teammates Evander Kane and Leon Draistaitl.
