An animated film with only 6% on Rotten Tomatoes is currently dominating the Netflix ranks

The Cinema program 2024 was a solid provider in the field of animated films, with expected sequels such as Despicable Me 4 And Inside Out 2 (which critics loved) is still in the top ten at the box office. But the best streaming services offer an impressive selection of options for cozy family movie nights at home. The real highlight, however, is the film that is currently number one on Netflix. Believe it or not, the 2017 animation flop Emoji – The Movie is currently dominating Netflix. Who would have thought that this critically derided film would be given new life and win the hearts of streamers everywhere?

Despite the initial criticism, with a meager score of 6% on Rotten tomatoes and only 12 on Metacritic, the film has found a new audience while sitting alongside the best movies on Netflix. Now, years later, Emoji – The Movie is experiencing a resurgence in popularity. Following its debut on the platform, subscribers are helping the film climb to the top of the platform’s charts. This may indicate that the film’s vibrant animation and simple plot still appeal to viewers looking for light-hearted entertainment.

Emoji – The Moviedirected by Tony Leondis, and featuring voice actors TJ Miller, James Corden and Anna Faris. The film delves into the colorful world of a smartphone and follows the character Gene, an emoji who can show multiple expressions, on his quest to become “normal.” Despite its creative premise, the film was met with harsh reviews upon its release, criticizing its superficial plot and excessive product placement. The The Golden Raspberry Awards named it the worst film of 2017an award that the film took home (won?). Nevertheless, the film was a moderate success, grossing $217 million worldwide on a $50 million budget.
