The Hundred 2024: Spirit wins comfortably and eliminates the Superchargers

London Spirit easily reached the target of 100 and eliminated their opponents Northern Superchargers from the women’s hundred competition at Headingley.

The Superchargers could have topped the table with a win in their final group match, but failed to put together a defendable score and Spirit overtook them into the knockout stages after scoring the required runs in 86 deliveries.

After the Superchargers won the toss and elected to bat, the score was 14-3 after the stumps of Marie Kelly, Hollie Armitage and Phoebe Litchfield were broken by Spirit bowlers.

Alice Davidson-Richards helped rebuild the innings by achieving partnerships of 30 with Annabel Sutherland and 39 with Georgia Wareham.

But Eva Gray dismissed Wareham and Bess Heath with her last two balls and Davidson-Richards was dismissed by Danielle Gibson on the last ball of the innings, leaving the Superchargers 99-7.

In response, Linsey Smith removed Meg Lanning and Cordelia Griffith with consecutive throws before catching Georgia Redmayne with her own bowling to leave Spirit 22-3 behind.

This meant that Indian international Deepti Sharma was in bat alongside captain Heather Knight and the pair steadily built up their partnership.

Knight started slowly but picked up speed towards the end, hitting Wareham for a six and finishing with a 14-ball lead.
