South Sioux City High School outlines cell phone expectations for upcoming school year

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Nebraska (KTIV) – Expectations regarding cell phones were outlined in the South Sioux City School Board agenda Monday night.

This school year, South Sioux City High School is outlining its expectations regarding cell phones.

Before class begins, students must place their phones in a holder at the front of the classroom. They are not allowed to use their phone during class unless they have permission for school use. Students can also use their phones before school, after school, during lunch, and during recess.

The school administration decided to set out these expectations after receiving feedback from teachers.

“Our focus is on student learning and engagement. And we know that putting away their phones is a challenge for many teens. With this process we have in place now, students will have their phones on hand,” said David Clausen, principal of South Sioux City High School.

Cell phone expectations state that students are not allowed to use their phones in the hallway during class time.

Should a cell phone be confiscated due to a violation of these rules, it will be handed over to the school’s assistant principal and picked up by the parents.
