EAST LANSING – The Michigan State Spartans continue their season opener with a preseason game before facing one of the best teams in the country next week, the Niagara Purple Eagles.

As the Spartans begin another season under legendary head coach Tom Izzo, they are trying to fine-tune a few things ahead of their big matchup with No. 1 Kansas next week. Last Monday’s season-opening win against Monmouth had many highlights worth mentioning. including Jaden Akins, who led the way with 23 points. The standout guard will be the focal point of MSU’s offense and will be relied upon as the team faces other top teams in the country, including many from the Big Ten.

After the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference, this is the Purple Eagles’ first big game of their non-conference season and the first of two games in the middle as they will face Detroit Mercy on Sunday. Niagara started the season with a 100-65 victory over Houghton University.

This is the first time the Spartans and Purple Eagles will meet in men’s basketball.
