INDIANAPOLIS – Tyrese Haliburton scored 17 points and hit a crucial 3-pointer to help the Pacers win 118-111 on Wednesday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

The Pacers have won two games in a row for the first time this season and improved to 4-4. The Magic fell to 3-6 with their fifth straight loss.

Bennedict Mathurin led the Pacers with 20 points. Jarace Walker scored a career-high 17 points on 7 of 7 shooting, including three 3-pointers. TJ McConnell scored 15 points and was 7 of 7 from the floor. Pascal Siakam and Myles Turner also scored 17 points. Franz Wagner led Orlando with 28 points.

Bennedict Mathurin hit two free throws for the game-winner, and the Pacers finished strong in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Magic 31-26.

The Pacers allowed an 11-point lead to shrink to two points, but Tyrese Haliburton just drilled a 3 to make it a five-point game with 31.7 seconds left. After a shaky start, Haliburton had 10 points in the fourth and two 3-pointers.

The Pacers went on a 7-1 run, with a three-pointer from Jarace Walker, a dunk from Myles Turner and a driving layup from Tyrese Haliburton making up the score. Haliburton woke up in the second half and had 14 points. Walker has a career-high 17 points and hasn’t missed yet, going 7-of-7 from the floor. Turner had 14 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 5 of 15 from the floor, but showed how important the glass is. The Pacers went 9 of 11 from the floor in the fourth quarter.

The Magic tied the game at 90-0 with an and-1 from Jonathan Isaac, but the Pacers got a long 2 from Jarace Walker and a driving layup from TJ McConnell to get within four points. McConnell has 15 points and Walker has 14. These two guys were really strong off the Pacers bench. McConnell is 7 of 7 from the floor and has five assists.

The Pacers shot 9 of 15 from the field in the third quarter but turned the ball over three times and were outnumbered 28-26, leaving them with just two points ahead heading into the fourth quarter. They’re shooting 53.6% from the floor, but Orlando is 7-2 in offensive rebounds and 13-0 in second-chance points, so that’s where the magic lies.

Jarace Walker just drilled a 3 to bring the Pacers within four points after the Magic fought back to get within one point. The Pacers are 7 of 12 and are getting good contributions from the bench, but they haven’t been able to build a big lead at the top.

The Pacers have rediscovered some offensive rhythm in the second half, outscoring the Magic 11-8 so far by scoring on 4 of 6 shots. Turnovers and rebounding were a bit of a problem. They are 25-23 on the glass and have yet to win a game when outrebounded this year.

The Pacers saw their 18-point lead disappear completely and were down 26-12 in the final 9:53 of the second quarter, but rallied to take a four-point lead at halftime.

At halftime, the Pacers are 21 of 41 from the field, 6 of 15 from 3, 13 of 13 at the line, 1.23 points per possession. The Magic are 21 of 44, 5 of 15, 10 of 11. 1.10 points per possession. Pascal Siakam and Bennedict Mathurin each have 13 points. Franz Wagner had 21 points and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had 13.

The Pacers offense was stagnant against Orlando’s 2-3 zone. The Pacers haven’t scored in nearly four minutes and the Magic have a 14-2 record.

The Pacers’ offense continues as they made their first four shots of the period. Ben Sheppard hit a 3 and Pascal Siakam, TJ McConnell and Obi Toppin each got shots, with Toppin throwing down a dunk just before the timeout.

At the end of the first quarter, all nine players who touched the field for the Pacers had a positive plus-minus number. TJ McConnell just hit his first 3-pointer of the year and Jarace Walker knocked down a block off the backboard to give the Pacers a 12-point lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Pacers are 14 of 21 from the floor, 3 of 7 from 3 and 7 of 7 at the line for 1.46 points per possession. The Magic are 9 of 24, 2 of 9, 6 of 6 and are averaging 0.98 points per possession.

TJ McConnell extended the Pacers’ lead with an impressive spin move and jumper to give the Pacers a 26-18 lead. The Pacers are 9 of 14. The Magic are 7 of 20 and are starting to miss some shots.

Bennedict Mathurin, Pascal Siakam and Myles Turner all got going early and the Pacers are 8 of 10 from the field with a remarkable 1.67 points per possession. Mathurin already has nine points, Siakam seven and Turner four. The Magic are also shooting well at 7 of 14 and 2 of 6 from 3, but Paolo Banchero’s absence is obvious.

With Aaron Nesmith out, the Pacers’ starters are the same as Monday. Magic had to make some adjustments with Paolo Banchero and Wendell Carter Jr. out.

Pacers forward Aaron Nesmith is out for the second straight game with a sprained ankle. Centers Isaiah Jackson and James Wiseman are out long-term due to torn Achilles tendons. Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said he hopes guard Andrew Nembhard will be available even though he is listed as questionable because of left knee soreness.

Magic All-Star forward Paolo Banchero will be out for several weeks with a torn right oblique muscle. Center Wendell Carter Jr. is out with plantar fasciitis in his left foot.

Dustin Dopirak: Pacers 115-106

The Pacers scored 130 regulation points for the first time this season against the Mavericks. That’s unlikely against the defensive-focused Magic. However, Orlando is reeling due to the loss of Paolo Banchero, and the injury to Wendell Carter Jr. doesn’t help either. The Pacers aren’t fully healthy either, with Aaron Nesmith out with an ankle injury and their then-center position. But 50 Orlando points are missing from the last meeting.
