FC Bayern Munich’s Champions League victory against SL Benfica was unfortunately the sight of tragedy. A medical emergency apparently occurred just three minutes into the game, which was delayed an additional fifteen minutes.

Via FCBayern.com the distressed fan died on the way to the hospital:

FC Bayern’s 1-0 win over Benfica Lisbon in the league phase of the Champions League on Wednesday evening was overshadowed by sad news as a medical emergency in the Allianz Arena crowd marred the game from the start. Out of respect, the Südkurve refrained from the usual loud support of the team and the club also reduced its coverage of the game.

About an hour after the end of the game, the club received the sad news that the fan had died on the way to hospital. FC Bayern mourns together with its relatives.

A somber reminder that life is as fragile as it is precious. All of our thoughts are with this member of the FC Bayern family and the loved ones they left behind. Rest in peace.
