A snowstorm that hit Colorado and resulted in Denver’s first officially measurable snow of the season was quite a blow to the Eastern Plains. And while many of us are still shoveling, another major explosion is expected on Friday.

Snowfall amounts in the Denver metro area and eastern Colorado ranged from 5 inches to more than 12 inches in some places. Officially we saw 5.5 inches of snow at Denver International Airport, plus over a foot in Genesee and Limon.

Winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings remain in effect through Thursday for a few more inches of snow.

Only a little snow will fall on Thursday, but more flakes will fly here and there.

Southern Colorado was buried in one to more than two feet of snow, with more snowfall expected through Wednesday night.

Winter storm warnings and watches are in effect for southern portions of the state for another foot or longer Thursday night through Friday night.

The same storm that hit the state on Wednesday will now begin to move beyond the plains into southeastern Colorado. This brings another good shot of winter moisture. We have already published a First Alert Weather Day for Friday and Saturday.

At this time, similar amounts of snow are possible Friday night into Saturday afternoon. In the Denver metro area, 3 to 6 inches is possible, while in some of our southern and southwestern suburbs there is potential for 6 to 12 inches. These amounts are likely to change, but are intended to remind you that further heavy snowfall is still possible.
