WPTV brings you the latest from Rick Scott’s watch party in SWFL

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. – One of the races we’re watching closely is the U.S. Senate race as Republican incumbent Rick Scott, who just completed his first six-year term, is being challenged by four other candidates, including his leading contender is Democrat Debbie Mucarsel-Powell.

WPTV reporter Kate Hussey is in Naples, Florida, at Scott’s watch party, where preparations are underway.

Scott campaigned on multiple platforms and launched his “12-Point Plan to Save America,” telling voters that he would lower inflation, secure the border, limit government spending and “put patriotism back in education.” want to bring”.

Although Scott is currently leading the polls, the heated race will be followed with great interest throughout the night.

In political ads, Scott refers to Powel as a “silly socialist” and calls her “delusional Debbie” on his website. Powell hits back, accusing the former administration of trying to take away freedoms because of its opposition to Amendment 4 and his 2022 law, which critics say could have ended Social Security and Medicare.

Scott, who opposes both Amendments 3 and 4, strongly refutes claims that he is trying to end federal programs and tells voters that he is focused on winning taxpayers back their dollars by limiting government spending.

Scott has also told voters that he is eyeing Senate leadership if he wins and hopes to replace current Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConell as the new Senate Republican leader.

If Powell wins, she could help Democrats maintain their current majority.

According to recent polls from NBC affiliates, 48% of Florida voters said they would vote for Scott, while 41% said they would vote for Powell.
