When polls open and close for voting in Florida on Election Day 2024

MIAMI — Registered voters in Florida will head to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 5, to cast their ballots in the 2024 election, deciding several key races and voting questions and making their choice for the next president.

Those who plan to vote should be aware of when their local polling district opens and closes.

When do polls open in Florida on Election Day?

Florida has two time zones, Central and Eastern, and polls open at 7 a.m. (local time) on Election Day.

If a person chooses to vote on Election Day, they must vote at their assigned precinct/polling station.

Voters must bring a current and valid photo ID with a signature. These include a Florida driver’s license, a Florida ID card issued by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, a student ID card, a military ID card, and a United States passport.

If the photo ID does not contain a signature, the voter will be asked to provide another ID with a signature.

If you don’t bring a valid ID, you can still vote with a provisional ballot. As long as you are eligible to vote and voted in the correct precinct, the provisional ballot will count as long as the signature on it matches the signature on your registration record.

The local election committee counts the ballot if it was cast in the correct electoral district and the signature on the provisional ballot certificate matches the signature on the electoral roll.

Mail-in ballots cannot be returned to polling stations on Election Day. Anyone who would like to vote at a polling station on election day should bring their postal ballot paper with them to the polling station so that it can be canceled before regular voting.

Mail-in ballots can be dropped off in secure mailboxes at election supervisory authority headquarters and branches until 7:00 p.m. (local time) on Election Day.

When do polls close in Florida on Election Day?

Polling stations close at 7 p.m. (local time). All voters in line at 7 p.m. will have the opportunity to cast their ballot.

When will the Florida election results be available?

Because Florida has two time zones, election night preliminary results will not be released until 8 p.m. Eastern Time, according to the Florida Division of Elections.

Preliminary election night reports, which include the results of all early voting and all absentee ballots tabulated by the close of early voting, must be submitted no later than 7:30 p.m. in each county’s time zone and within 45 minutes, according to the Florida Division of Elections thereafter, all results (except provisional ballots and certain mail-in ballots with affidavits) are reported in full (district election results).
