Who is ahead in the polls? When will we know who won Trump-Harris?

play

It’s the final countdown to the presidential race, and there are two scenarios that could make history if either candidate wins.

If Vice President Kamala Harris wins, she would be the first woman in U.S. history to hold the title of president.

If former President Donald Trump wins, he will make a surprise comeback and lead the nation for another four years.

Voters are watching the polls to see who is currently in the lead. They also wonder when the winner will be announced.

Here’s what you should know about the surveys.

What are the battleground states?

The seven key battleground states are Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Neither Trump nor Harris has a significant advantage over any of these states.

How many votes does a candidate need to win?

To win the presidency, a candidate must receive 270 Electoral College votes. Although there are traditionally blue and red states in which Harris and Trump are each expected to receive at least 200 electoral votes, neither candidate is ahead in enough states to guarantee confidence in the 270 electoral votes, according to the New York Times. The polls in the nearest states are almost undecided.

What are the latest polls between Harris and Trump?

According to USA TODAY, swing state polls published by The New York Times and Sienna College suggest Harris is narrowly ahead in Nevada, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Georgia. In Arizona, Trump was shown in the lead. Trump and Harris were tied in Pennsylvania and Michigan – two crucial blue wall states. However, the survey results were within a margin of error of 3.5% in each state. This means that the evidence should not be viewed as definitive and could well be statistical errors.

When will the results be announced on election day?

If this election is anything like 2020, the final results will not be announced Tuesday evening. According to USA TODAY, local and state certification deadlines range from two days to over a month after Nov. 5. Legal challenges can also delay the determination of the winner.

Since the COVID pandemic, there has been a surge in mail-in voting, resulting in a delay in the 2020 election results. In total, it took four days for both votes to be counted and for news outlets to announce President Joe Biden’s victory. By comparison, in 2016, the race for Trump was called in the early hours of the next day.

How can I track the results on Election Day?

It’s easy to track the results on Election Day. Just watch the USA TODAY Network Hub, where election results are recorded as they come in from across the country. The hub also hosts House and Senate races that determine which party controls Congress. Live scores and analysis from USA TODAY are available via live stream.
