Weekend forecast: Chance of rain at times

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – There is a good chance of showers and thunderstorms in the eastern half of the area. More rain is possible next week as we enter an active weather pattern. Temperatures will be mostly seasonal from this weekend into next week.

Saturday will be mostly cloudy, cool and windy, with southeast winds of 10 to 20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph. Low temperatures will be in the mid 20s to mid 40s, and highs will be in the upper 50s to mid 60s. The western third of Nebraska has a low chance of rain or will remain dry through the first half of the weekend. Central and eastern Nebraska should be mostly cloudy, with a 20% to 30% chance of rain in the morning, then a 60% chance of showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms in the afternoon. Rain chances are expected to decrease in the central part of Nebraska this evening, but rain is likely to continue in the eastern third.

A warm front will move north across the area on Sunday. It should be windy again and not so cool anymore. Low temperatures will be in the upper 30s to mid 50s and highs will be in the mid 50s to around 70 degrees. Winds will appear southeast at 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. There may be fog and drizzle in some areas in the morning, as well as a 20 to 30% chance of isolated showers and isolated thunderstorms. This chance should continue into the afternoon before increasing to 40% to 60% across the area in the evening. Scattered to isolated severe thunderstorms are also possible on Saturday and Sunday. Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats. A few isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

A cold front will move through the area and through the upper plains on Monday, making rain possible. It should also be airy. Rain may continue in eastern Nebraska Tuesday morning, but the afternoon should be dry. Further chances of rain are forecast for Thursday and Friday.
