Fire burns through empty restaurant

The Yarmouth Fire Department is battling a major fire at a long-vacant restaurant on Route 6A in Yarmouth Harbor, a dispatcher confirmed Sunday evening.

The dispatcher, who declined to give his name, said the cause of the fire was not yet known. He said police received a call reporting the fire just before 6:30 p.m. Almost three hours later, emergency services remained at the scene of the fire; further details were not immediately available.

Videos and photos posted on social media showed huge orange flames and plumes of smoke rising into the sky above the dilapidated wooden building as firefighters monitored and hosed down the structure’s remains.

The building that reportedly housed Anthony’s Cummaquid Inn before the restaurant closed in 2015 appears to be destroyed, with flames burning through the windows and roof.

A video posted on YouTube by Hyannis News showed flames engulfing the roof of the building and reducing an entrance to ashes. Firefighters also demonstrated using a hose to shoot water at the flames behind a hole in the wall.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
