Chloë Grace Moretz comes out as a “gay woman” in a message about voting to protect LGBTQ+ rights

“There is so much at stake in this election,” the “Nimona” star wrote, announcing that she voted for Kamala Harris.

Chloë Grace Moretz has come out as a “gay woman” while also passionately supporting Kamala Harris’ presidential candidacy.

With Election Day less than a week away, the Nimona The star announced on Instagram on Friday that she voted “early” for the Democratic nominee, Vice President Harris, in the 2024 election. From then on, the actress was open about how her identity influenced the decision.

“There is so much at stake in this election,” Moretz wrote alongside a photo of an “I Voted Early” sticker she had stuck to her jeans. “I believe that the government has no right to my body as a woman and that decisions about my body should ONLY be mine and my doctor. Kamala Harris will protect this for us.”

She then opened up about her sexuality, writing: “I believe in the need for legal protections that (protect) the LGBTQ+ community as a gay woman. We need protection in this country and access to the care we need and deserve.”

The Periphery The actress concluded her post by urging her more than 24 million Instagram followers to vote early, adding, “Make a plan to get to your polling place with your friends. Go to IWillVote.com to find out the best plan for you.”

The social media post marks the first time Moretz has publicly discussed her sexuality, although she has been dating model Kate Harrison since 2018, when they were spotted kissing at a restaurant in Malibu. The couple are often photographed together in public and are frequently featured on each other’s social media pages. Earlier this year, they were spotted wearing matching rings on their left ring fingers during a visit to Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

Moretz – who has been in the spotlight since she began her career at the age of seven – is typically private about her personal life, but has been known to attend protests and speak out for LGBTQ+ rights. On the heels of The Malformation of Cameron PostIn her 2018 coming-of-age drama about a teenager who undergoes gay conversion therapy, the actress addressed how some critics of the film viewed her role as an example of straight actors playing LGBTQ+ characters .

“Oh really?” Moretz responded during an interview with The Independent. “Well, I think what’s important is not to fool anyone about sexuality.”

Quoting the film, she added: “I think it depends on the line in the film. (My character) says, ‘I don’t see myself as a homosexual. I see myself as nothing at all.’ These are all social constraints that we are labeled as. We are all human and we try to be with the people we fall in love with and be the best person we can be. And don’t project your own problems onto her. Why don’t we let people be who they want to be?”
