I’m not here to “sling mud”

Saying the dream is alive, Jon Bon Jovi performed two songs at Kamala Harris’ campaign rally on Saturday, November 2, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Sayreville native The War and Treaty, also known as married singer-songwriters Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter, performed “The People House” and a slow and spiritual “Livin’ on a Prayer,” which featured several sustained vocal runs from Bon Jovi contained .

The rocker is recovering from vocal cord surgery and live performances have been rare over the past two years.

Bon Jovi delivered his remarks after the songs.

“Thank you very much. “My name is Jon Bon Jovi and I am very proud to be here today to support Kamala Harris and Tim Walz to become the next President and Vice President of this United States of America,” said Bon Jovi. ” Today I decided not to talk about politics and came here today not to throw dirt on anyone. I have a simple question for the people of North Carolina and America: who can we rely on to unite, when we are most divided?

“This great nation adopted the motto “e pluribus unum” in 1782, which means “out of many, one” in Latin. These words ring very true today. Now we can move forward together and embrace what makes us different, what actually makes America great, and I believe with all my heart in the next generation. We can move forward with this next generation, but we must let them understand that the dream is very much alive and well because we the people have the power to decide our future and North Carolina could very well decide who this election wins. It’s true.

“It’s time for us to march to the polls in North Carolina,” Bon Jovi said. “Make your voices heard. Go to the polls on Tuesday, November 5th. Make sure you bring a valid ID. If you don’t have an ID, you can sign up for an ID exemption and still vote because, ladies and gentlemen, it’s no secret. This is the people’s house, the house of you and me – let’s get the job done! Thank you.”

Michael Trotter Jr., an Iraq war veteran, also spoke to the crowd.

“The day our first female vice president ever decided to accept the nomination, we heard the sound, the sound of humanity, the sound of democracy!” Trotter said. “It’s time to answer that call. Go vote, go vote!”

Bon Jovi and The War and Treaty were joined by Bon Jovi band members John Shanks on guitar and Everett Bradley on percussion for the songs.

Bon Jovi officially supported Harris on October 11 with a video for the band’s latest song, “The People’s House,” which featured The War and Treaty as a guest. The video was filmed in early September in Nashville, where Bon Jovi urged a suicidal woman to get back to safety on the ledge of a pedestrian bridge.

Bon Jovi, a longtime supporter of Democratic candidates, was appointed to the White House Council on Community Solutions in 2010 by former President Barack Obama. Bon Jovi and The War and Treaty were also scheduled to attend a rally in Atlanta on Sunday, November 13th. 3 with Walz, REM frontman Michael Stipe and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.

Emhoff is from Old Bridge, a short drive up Route 9 to Bon Jovi’s childhood home in Sayreville.

The Charlotte rally also featured a performance by R&B singer Khalid and a speech by actress Kerry Washington before Harris took the stage.
