My Jets analysis

The Winnipeg Jets have the best record in the NHL, and for good reason. This team is effective in all three zones and ranks first in goals scored per game and fourth in goals allowed per game.

The odds are good in this game as the Tampa Bay Lightning are also a good team and rank eighth in each of the two categories mentioned above.

Let’s start with the offensive battle, which is probably a defeat. Winnipeg outscores Tampa by 0.91 goals scored per game, while the Bolts have averaged 0.09 more expected goals per 60 minutes.

While the offensive performance is (at worst) a bust, the defensive and goaltending advantages clearly go to the Jets. Winnipeg performs better in terms of xGA/60, goals allowed per game, penalty minutes taken per game and penalty kill percentage.

Subsequently, the Jets rank seventh in expected goal difference per 60 minutes, while Tampa ranks 20th in the same category. You also have to give Connor Hellebuyck the goaltending advantage over Andrei Vasilevskiy, considering the reigning Vezina Trophy winner has a better SV% and GAA.

When you factor in home-field advantage, I don’t think the Jets are big favorites in this matchup. I believe their +190 puck line is even more valuable considering each of their last three wins have come by two goals or more, a trend that also holds true in each of Tampa’s last three losses.

The Winnipeg Jets have the best record in the NHL and are legitimate favorites in this contest against the Tampa Bay Lightning. They opened as favorites at -130 and are holding steady at this price.

Since these two teams are two of the highest scoring teams in the entire NHL, that total is 6 and is far more likely to go up to 6.5 than in the opposite direction.
