Weekend snow on mountain passes, wet weather in Seattle

We forecast a wet and active pattern around Seattle and Western Washington on Saturday, followed by calmer weather on Sunday.

At times on Saturday morning, traction tires were recommended for Stevens and White Passes. While there was a light rain/snow mix at Snoqualmie Pass today, the roads were simply bare and wet. Snow accumulations at Snoqualmie Pass this weekend are highly unlikely.

A winter weather advisory above 3,500 feet elevation is in effect until 10 a.m. Sunday for the areas highlighted below. By midday Saturday we are forecasting an additional 2-6 inches (or more) at Stevens Pass and another 2-7 inches (or more) at White Pass. The forecast area of ​​additional snow is intended to take into account where heavier bands of snow develop. The snow will gradually ease by midday on Sunday.

As rain continues in Seattle Saturday evening, snowy weather is possible across Stevens and White Passes.

Today, mostly cloudy skies and isolated rain can be expected in the lowlands. Rain will become heavier around Puget Sound this afternoon. If you’re going to the Huskies game, be sure to bring warm, waterproof layers!

Tomorrow the sky will be partly to mostly cloudy. While a light shower is possible in the morning, most of the Seahawks game is expected to be dry as the sun increases. I would still advise you to have a rain jacket with you in case it rains again at the start of the game.

On Monday, another system will target the region, bringing another round of lowland rain and mountain snow (generally, snow should fall above 4,000 feet elevation). It will also be windy on Monday – especially in the typical areas (e.g. North Sound and North Coast). There can also be rough surfing conditions along the coast.
