The ESPN broadcast criticizes SEC officials for missing a penalty because a Tennessee player hit Brock Vandagriff out of bounds

Kentucky Fans aren’t the only ones upset about a missed quarterback call Brock Vandagriff at the start of Saturday’s competition against Tennessee. The broadcast criticized the officials for not throwing a flag after Vandagriff appeared to be pushed to the ground following the game Omar Norman Lott.

Additionally, Norman-Lott was not part of the play at the time this moment occurred. He watched from the sidelines as Vandagriff ran out of bounds near him. When ESPN’s Tom Hart rewatched the moment on replay, he was shocked that the SEC crew didn’t throw a flag.

“As he got to the sideline, he was caught by Norman-Lott, who put his hands out,” Hart said. “Omarr Norman-Lott is a defensive lineman and acted like one on that two-yard run. He said, ‘Do you want to come here?’ Meet my hand.’… That’s a big mistake by this officiating team.”

Color commentator Jordan Rodgers agreed with his play-by-play man.

“I’m a little surprised there wasn’t a flag raised here,” Rodgers said. “You have to mark that. It wasn’t, ‘You walked into my outstretched hands.’ He reached out.”

Either way, there’s not much the officiating crew can do after the missed call. The game continued and Kentucky found itself in a third-and-long situation instead of gaining a potential 15 yards and an automatic first down. On the other hand, it’s a nice break for Tennessee.

Vandagriff has led Kentucky’s offense well so far, leading 7-0 at Neyland Stadium. Tennessee has struggled to put up points in the first half in recent weeks, and that trend continued for at least a quarter. Kentucky scoring as many points as possible early could be the key to a victory that would be a huge surprise for the head coach Mark Stoops and the program.
