K-State upsets Houston in close game after hour-long weather delay

HOUSTON, TX. (WIBW) – K-State is upset in a close game against Houston, 24-19, after an hour-long weather delay.

The Wildcats would get on the scoreboard first with a 23-yard field goal from Chris Tennant to take a 3-0 lead.

Houston would respond with 10 straight points to take a 10-3 lead thanks to a Donovan Smith touchdown and a Jack Martin field goal.

K-State would respond with a 2-yard touchdown from DJ Giddens, but the extra point is blocked, leaving the Wildcats still behind 10-9.

However, the Wildcats would regain the lead just before halftime with a 7-yard pass from Avery Johnson to Keagan Johnson, making it 16-10 at halftime.

K-State would add 3 points to open the second half with a 47-yard field goal by Chris Tennant, extending the lead to 19-10.

The Cougars weren’t deterred, however, as they scored 14 straight goals in the fourth quarter to take a 24-19 lead.

The Wildcats had a few chances to win the game, but a late interception by Johnson and a failed Hail Mary ended the game.

K-State falls to 7-2 on the season and 4-2 in conference play.

Johnson was 23/39 for 238 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions.

Giddens had 17 carries for 50 yards and a touchdown.

The Wildcats will have next week off before hosting Arizona State on Saturday, November 16th.
