Gameday Central: Florida State Seminoles vs. UNC Tar Heels previews, predictions, how to watch

The Florida State Seminoles host the North Carolina Tar Heels at Doak Campbell Stadium this afternoon as 2.5 point underdogs. Most oddsmakers are predicting that UNC coach Mack Brown will finally get his first win against the Noles on his 12th attempt, ending another FSU streak in their never-ending nightmare of a season. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and will be televised ACCN.

The Seminoles (1-7, 1-6) have beaten North Carolina (4-4, 1-3) in their last two meetings and hold a 17-3-1 lead in the all-time series. In their last meeting in 2021, FSU entered the game in Chapel Hill as an 18-point underdog and emerged as a 10-point winner. From Tomahawk Nation’s game summary:

“I really think it’s a new team,” Mike Norvell said afterward State of Florida Football’s 35-25 win at North Carolina. And a new team was exactly what Florida State football looked like. In the first four weeks of the season, the Seminoles were unable to put together any winning plays. In Chapel Hill that was all they did. The Seminoles were 7-10 on third down, 3-3 in the red zone, did not allow a sack and committed no turnovers. Norvell said: “Tonight we played winning football.”

The Seminoles entered Chapel Hill as 18-point underdogs and left the game as 10-point winners. How does this happen? Believe. “You believe. They believe in what we do and how we do it. We want these guys to do their best,” Norvell said.

A surprise also happens when the best player on the field is your quarterback. Jordan Travis was by far the best player on the field in Chapel Hill. Travis was 11-13 for 145 yards and three touchdowns. He also set a career high with 121 rushing yards. After Norvell’s first ever road win, Travis was FSU’s turf captain and cut a piece of UNC’s turf to return to FSU’s turf graveyard. After the game, the QB said, “I am so blessed to be a part of this Florida State football team.”

According to FanDuel The Seminoles are 2.5 point underdogs against the Tar Heels, with the over/under ratio at 49.5.
