Double Kane: Bayern also beats Union

FC Bayern has completed a successful week with another win and remains at the top of the Bundesliga. After the shooting festivals in Bochum (5:0) and Mainz (4:0), coach Vincent Kompany’s team also clearly won their home game against Union Berlin and celebrated their lead in the table thanks to the confident 3:0 (2:0).

Star striker Harry Kane (15th, penalty kick, 51st) with his ten and eleven goals this season and Kingsley Coman (43rd) ensured the deserved victory. It was also a successful dress rehearsal before the important Champions League game against Benfica Lisbon on Wednesday (9 p.m./DAZN).

In the premier class, the German record champions are under pressure after two defeats in three games. The game against Union, which also remained without a win in the eleventh duel with Bayern, may have provided additional tailwind. Also because the Munich team were ice-cold against what had previously been the second-best defense in the league.

A possible rotation before the game during the week had not played a role in Kompany’s plans; the coach used his best eleven again against the fourth-place team. Among other things, Dayot Upamecano returned to the starting line-up after his thigh injury, while Coman and Michael Olise stormed on the offensive flanks.

The latter in particular proved to be an asset in the initial phase. Bayern had to have a lot of patience against low-lying Unioners – but when things got dangerous, it was through Olise. Berlin blocked the first two smaller chances after the Frenchman’s preparatory work, but when Olise started to dribble a third time, Benedict Hollerbach came too late in the penalty area. Kane confidently converted the penalty that was due.

This changed little in the game. As usual, Bayern dominated with a lot of possession, the Union team hardly allowed anything to happen thanks to their defensive stability. Until they had their own chances: Jordan (33′), however, failed with his shot from the turn because Manuel Neuer reacted strongly. Bayern survived the guests’ first little period of pressure unscathed – and even improved before the break.

After Kane’s preparatory work, Coman remained ice cold and hit Frederik Rönnow high into the right corner. It was only the second time the Frenchman scored for Bayern in three consecutive league games. After the break it was Kane who made the early decision following a pass from Coman.

The Union war was primarily aimed at limiting damage. Bayern confidently defended the guests’ few counterattack situations.
