UConn becomes bowl eligible and beats Georgia State 34-27

EAST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – The UConn Huskies football program earned bowl eligibility Friday night when they defeated the Georgia State Panthers 34-27 in the final game of their six home games.

The scoring began right from the start when sophomore quarterback Nick Evers completed a two-yard pass to junior tight end Louis Hansen for the touchdown nearly three minutes into the contest.

The Huskies added a field goal and ended the first quarter with a 10-point lead.

However, the Panthers would respond with 10 points of their own in the second quarter. Senior quarterback Zach Gibson connected with junior wide receiver Ted Hurst for a seven-yard touchdown.

After a field goal with three minutes left, the game was tied.

The Huskies would answer, as a field goal with 20 seconds left in the half gave them a three-point lead heading into the locker room.

UConn extended its lead when freshman running back Durell Robinson ran into the end zone from one yard out.

Georgia State added a field goal and early in the fourth quarter the score was 20-13 in favor of the Huskies.

Evers would use the ground game to find his way into the end zone and run the ball for a five-yard touchdown.

Then junior running back Mel Brown, who rushed for 138 yards for the game, broke off a 31-yard run that gave the Huskies six more yards.

A late push by the Panthers wasn’t enough and UConn left East Hartford with a huge 34-27 win.

The Huskies are now bowl eligible for the first time since 2022, when they lost to the Marshall Thundering Herd in the Myrtle Beach Bowl.

Next, they travel to Birmingham, Alabama to take on the struggling UAB Blazers.
