Tom Herman confronts Alex Golesh after the post-game handshake

South Florida Head coach Alex Golesh wasn’t interested in exchanging pleasantries with him FAU Head coach Tom Hermann after the Bulls defeated the Owls 44-21 on Friday. As is tradition, the two coaches met in midfield to shake hands after the game.

Golesh obeyed, but did not stop to talk to Herman, and immediately moved on after shaking his hand. Herman was annoyed at the insult and chased Golesh through the crowd of coaches and players. After a brief exchange of words, the two trainers were led away from each other.

After the heated exchange, many fans took to social media to point out that Golesh’s icy demeanor may have been a result of Herman’s decision to run up the score in FAU’s 56-14 win over USF last season. At least Golesh seemed to have returned the favor on Friday.

In the win, the Bulls scored 13 points in the fourth quarter alone, even though they already had a 10-point lead. USF finished the game with 525 yards of total offense and did not commit a single turnover.

Bulls quarterback Bryce Archie led the attack and completed 19 of his 32 pass attempts for 206 yards and two touchdowns. Not to be outdone, USF running back No, Quan Wright added 117 rushing yards and a TD in the Bulls’ winning effort.

Golesh is in his second season as USF’s head coach. With the win, the Bulls improved to 4-4 and 2-2 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Herman’s Owls are off to a disastrous start to conference play, with a record of 0-4 against AAC opponents and an overall record of 2-6.

It’s a rivalry that could have a lot more to offer in the foreseeable future. The two coaches battle not only on the gridiron but also on the recruiting trail, with many of their targets lying in each other’s backyards.

For now, Alex Golesh can smile knowing he has exacted revenge. Nevertheless, it is safe to assume that Tom Herman Golesh’s actions will not be forgotten any time soon.
