BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Election Day could be wet across much of the United States as a storm system hits several states, including some battleground states in the Midwest.

On Tuesday morning, November 5, a storm system will impact the Upper Midwest with a mix of rain and snow in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Upper Michigan. This shield of precipitation will move northeast into southern Canada throughout the day until polls close.

A frontal boundary will extend southwest across the Ohio River Valley into the Deep South, including Louisiana, with isolated showers and thunderstorms along this front.

Another system will move into the Pacific Northwest but is expected to produce precipitation only in Washington state.

Trump and Harris are tied in the polls

This election day, weather conditions for voting will be calm across most of the country.

A 2024 ScienceDirect journal article showed that rainfall slightly reduced in-person voting in the last three presidential elections in North Carolina. Author Nick Turner noted that previous U.S. and international studies showed a decline in voter turnout even on rainy days. However, Turner also said that in wet weather elections, voters tended to adopt alternative voting methods such as absentee voting and early voting, which would lead to more votes in future elections.
