Best NHL Bets Today (Big Cities Will Roll Through Canadiens)

We’re red hot in the NHL! After the 3-0 win on Wednesday evening, we have now won six bets in a row!

You never know when a hot streak is going to end, so I’m going to try to keep this going for as long as possible. With seven games scheduled to take place across the NHL, we have a few options to choose from. I took a look at the numbers and noted my top three bets.

Let’s dive into them.

Ducks vs Penguins Prediction

I love this place for the penguins. They were one of the best offensive teams to start the season, ranking fourth in expected goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5. Their problem so far has been defense, but now they face a Ducks team that will struggle to take advantage. Anaheim managed to create just 8.91 dangerous scoring chances per 60 minutes.

If there’s one team the Penguins should be able to deal with, it’s a team like the Ducks, who will have a hard time taking advantage of their poor defense. They won’t be able to keep up with Pittsburgh’s offense.

If you want to be aggressive, you can put the Penguins on the puck line at -1.5, but I’m going to play it a little safer and put them on the moneyline at -170.

Selection: Penguins -170

Canadiens vs Capitals Prediction

One team I will be betting on aggressively is the Capitals, who I will bet on at +122 on the puck line. This is a clash between one of the best teams in the league early in the season and one of the worst. The Capitals lead the NHL in expected goal difference at +1.48 per 60 minutes, while the Canadiens are 31st in that stat at -1.04.

This game is a complete mismatch and with the Capitals playing on their home ice, betting on the puck line is worth the risk.

Selection: Capital letters -1.5 (+122)

Blues vs Flyers Prediction

These teams are too close in most metrics to justify the Blues being such huge underdogs. For example, the Flyers are just 23rd in expected goals rate and the Blues are just a few spots behind at 27th. St. Louis actually beats them in CORSI percentage, sitting at 48.01% compared to the Flyers at 47.45%.

Add to that the fact that Samuel Ersson’s .891 save percentage will start the Flyers, and we have a great underdog bet on the Blues at +135.

Pick: Blues +135
