Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes has continued to perform on and off the field throughout his NFL career. Mahomes has been one of the best players in the NFL for several years and is already a legend in Kansas City sports history.

Mahomes has helped the Chiefs become the NFL’s gold standard by winning three Super Bowls since 2019. However, the superstar signal-caller has set his sights on expanding his reach to the other sports teams in KC and is co-owner of the Kansas City Royals (MLB), Sporting KC (MLS) and the KC Current (NWSL).

After all that, Mahomes now wants to get involved in the basketball scene and give Kansas City a WNBA team.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the KC Current ownership, which includes the Chiefs superstar QB and his wife Brittany Mahomes, has met with the WNBA and is in the running to bring a franchise to the city.

If you’re a Kansas City sports fan, this is exciting news and seeing Current’s ownership group take over is a great sign.

The WNBA has had one of the most watched and popular seasons in recent memory. The league is expected to add three expansion teams over the next two years, with the Golden State Valkyries expected to play in 2025.

In September, Sports Business Journal reported that Kansas City was one of the cities and regions interested in purchasing the WNBA’s 16th franchise.

Given the popularity of the WNBA and the success of the Current, it will be interesting to see if Mahomes and the rest of the ownership group can bring women’s basketball to KC.
