Megan Thee Stallion is suing bloggers for “defamatory falsehoods” surrounding the Tory Lanez shooting

Megan Thee Stallion is suing blogger Milagro Gramz, accusing her of intentionally spreading false information on behalf of rapper Tory Lanez. who was found guilty in 2020 of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot.

The 29-year-old rapper filed a lawsuit in the Southern District of Florida on Wednesday under her legal name Megan Pete against the popular content creator, officially known as Milagro Elizabeth Cooper.

In the lawsuit, Pete’s lawyers accuse Cooper of intentionally causing the hip-hop star emotional distress through cyberstalking, promoting and distributing fake pornography of Pete, and questioning whether she was actually shot.

The lawsuit calls Cooper a “puppet.” Lanez during and after his high-profile trial, in which Pete testified that Lanez shot her feet five times after an argument escalated. A jury convicted Lanez of multiple charges, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm and grossly negligent discharge of a firearm. Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2023.

“The jury got it right,” said Alex Spiro, Megan Thee Stallion’s attorney CBS News in a statement after the trial. “I’m grateful that there is justice for Meg.”

In an exclusive interview with “CBS Mornings” in 2022Pete explained why she wanted to tell her side of the shooting story.

“I feel like people create these narratives about you and if you don’t stand up for yourself they just run away and people are able to pile lies on top of more lies on top of more lies,” she said. CBS Mornings” co-host Gayle King two years ago. “I just really want to take control of my own narrative.”

Pete said in a statement about the lawsuit: “…These individuals must understand that there will be consequences for recklessly publishing lies and defamatory falsehoods.”

CBS News legal analyst Jessica Levinson said she believes Pete has a good case.

“What she is alleging here are various torts and a state cause of action that essentially involve deep fakes,” Levinson said. “Based on her complaint, she says intentional infliction of emotional distress, cyberbullying and false statements are being made. This could make people think twice before engaging in cyberbullying or defamation.”

CBS News reached out to Cooper’s representatives, who have not yet commented on the lawsuit.
