Kelly Clarkson Looks Unrecognizable as Beetlejuice for Halloween (Exclusive)

The Grammy-winning singer and Emmy-winning daytime host is having a deadly Halloween this year, becoming the strange and unusual Beetlejuice (or Betelgeuse, as his name is often spelled) on the October 31 episode. The Kelly Clarkson Show.

PEOPLE gets a first look at Clarkson in costume and a behind-the-scenes look at her eerie transformation in The Ghost with the Most.

She nails the look by recreating the character’s black and white pinstripe suit, green hair, dark eyes and creepy skin. She rocks even with his rotten teeth,

It’s a really effective makeover, y’all – the house band The Kelly Clarkson Show – said fittingly to Clarkson, “You look gross“When they first saw them done, they laughed at the result.

Of course, Clarkson didn’t do everything himself. She had a stunning glamor team, starting with stylist Micaela Erlanger and dresser Arleisha Randle, who took care of Beetlejuice’s wardrobe.

Emmy-nominated makeup artist Gloria Elias-Foeillet was responsible for creating Beetlejuice’s ghostly complexion, while Emmy winner Louie Zakarian – designer and department head of Saturday Night Live – did all the special effects makeup.

And then there was the hairdresser Corey Morris and SNL Wig maker Brittany Hartman, who created Beetlejuice’s signature ‘do.

But Clarkson doesn’t just limit himself to Beetlejuice’s aesthetic. She captures every aspect of the character made famous on screen by Michael Keaton, even mimicking the actor’s iconic speech.

Fans first met Beetlejuice in Tim Burton’s 1988 American gothic dark fantasy starring Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis (among others). Keaton, Ryder and O’Hara all reprized their roles Beetlejuice Beetlejuicethis year’s long-awaited sequel, which was also directed by the 66-year-old Burton.

The Kelly Clarkson Showlike its title star, goes all out Beetlejuice also franchise. In addition to Clarkson’s costume, the show incorporates elements from both films into its set and even recreates the iconic model town.

Like all episodes, the Halloween party begins with one of Clarkson’s celebrated Kellyoke numbers. This time, she and the band – also in costumes – perform a spooky cover of “Banana Boat (Day-O),” the Harry Belafonte song used in one of theirs BeetlejuiceThe most iconic scenes.

Guests Reba McEntire and her boyfriend, actor Rex Linn, also appear in costumes – Linn’s ensemble particularly frightens McEntire.

Food artist and Practical features Creator Nikk Alcaraz also makes a guest appearance and guides Clarkson, McEntire and Linn through spooky dishes from his new book. Weird Baking: A Practical Guide to Weird Confections.

There is also a never-before-seen past section Kelly Clarkson Show Guests Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone. Straight from their new podcast, the pair face off against Clarkson in a highly competitive ax throwing contest. Hildy the Barback and the Lake of Fire.

The episode ends with the Boulet Brothers playing “All Hallows’ Eve” from their new EP Halloween house party, and a segment about a Wisconsin neonatal intensive care unit nurse who crochets Halloween costumes for newborns.

This is Clarkson’s sixth Halloween episode of her talk show and the second since the popular daytime series moved from Los Angeles and across the country to New York City.

Last season she appeared as a blood-sucking vampire and the year before that she went for another spooky Stevie Nicks-inspired look. But the first three seasons were all about more lighthearted fun: Ghostbusters (Season 3), Marilyn Monroe (Season 2), and Winifred Sanderson of Hocus pocus (Season 1).
