The White House did not respond when pressed for the transcript of Biden’s “garbage” comments

The White House remained silent Thursday when asked to confirm whether its stenographers had approved the transcript it released of President Biden’s remarks in which he called Trump supporters “garbage,” while Republicans claimed the A written version of his remarks published on the White House website was edited to be misleading.

Republicans on the House Oversight Committee sent a letter to White House Counsel Edward Siskel on Wednesday alleging that the White House released “a false transcript” of Biden’s remarks and demanding that it release “all documents and internal Communications” in this regard preserve and preserve the President’s remarks and the publication of the subsequent minutes. The committee also requested that an updated protocol with correct wording be submitted.

Following Biden’s comments on Tuesday, which came during a virtual Zoom call with a Hispanic voter group called Voto Latino, the White House released a transcript of the president’s remarks. Transcripts are regularly released for each presidential speech, and it is typical protocol to have those transcripts approved by the White House’s nonpolitical group of professional stenographers. However, the White House has not responded to repeated inquiries from Fox News asking whether the final transcript of Biden’s remarks with Voto Latino had been approved by stenographers.

Oversight committee sources told Fox News that while Biden clearly called Trump supporters “trash,” the transcript contained incorrect syntax that made it appear the president’s words were not directly speaking about Trump supporters – an argument which was also echoed by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

“President Biden’s vindictive words were not surprising given his previous comments about people who chose not to vote for his preferred candidate. The White House’s actions after he said them were also “unsurprising,” said the letter signed by Rep. Elise Stefanik. R-NY and James Comer, R-Ky.

“The move is not only cowardly, but also appears to violate federal law, including the Presidential Records Act of 1978,” the two GOP leaders continued in their letter. “White House staff cannot rephrase the words of the President of the United States to convey a more political message.”

In an attempt to clarify Biden’s remarks amid backlash over the comments, White House deputy press secretary Andrew Bates insisted: “The President called the hateful rhetoric at the Madison Square Garden rally ‘garbage.'” Biden himself posted A subsequent tweet of his controversial statements also reflects Bates’ reasoning.

Vice President Kamala Harris, meanwhile, sought to distance herself from the president’s comments less than a week before Election Day, while also defending Biden, noting that he had “clarified his comments.”

“I think that, first of all, he has clarified his comments, but let me be clear that I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for,” Harris said on the campaign trail Wednesday morning.
