Throughout the 2024 edition of this tournament, Lanus has responded well after conceding a goal, and they did so again last Wednesday.

Ricardo ZielinskiBarcelona’s men conceded the first goal in three away games in the Copa Sudamericana this year and found a way to get a result.

They are unbeaten at home in the knockout stages of this tournament, winning 3-1 against LDU Quito in the round of 16 and drawing 0-0 at home against Independiente Medellin in the quarter-finals.

Lanus are winless in their last five games in all competitions and have not won a game in regular time since their home win over LDU Quito in August.

This is their third appearance in the semi-finals of this competition and the Argentines have never been eliminated or lost a game in this phase of the Sudamericana.

Their four wins against Brazilian opponents in the Sudamericana have all come on their home pitch, although their only defeat in Lanus in this competition came in this season’s group stage against Cuiaba (1-0).

Cruzeiro got the start they were hoping for in the first game in the second half, scoring six minutes after the restart, but couldn’t hold on.

It was the second consecutive time they failed to secure a win at home in the competition this season by scoring the opening goal.

They picked up points in four of their five Sudamericana games away from home, with their only away defeat coming against Boca Juniors in the round of 16 (1-0).

Fernando Diniz has not won an away game since his move Fernando Seabra as coach in September, with Celeste failing to score an away goal since the man who led Fluminense to the Copa Libertadores title last year took over.

Raposa is winless in its last seven games in all competitions, losing 3-0 at home to Athletico Paranaense on Saturday.

They lost their only two away games in this competition in Argentina, failing to score in both cases.

We say: Lanus 1-0 Cruzeiro (Lanus advances 2-1 on aggregate)

Neither team is in top form domestically, but we believe Lanus’ resilience and strong performance at home in this competition will be enough to see them to victory.
