Juventus 2-2 Parma (Oct 30, 2024) Match analysis

Juventus twice came from behind at home to Parma on Wednesday to preserve an unbeaten record but fell to fourth place in the Serie A table.

Juventus has 18 points, seven points behind leaders Napoli, and slipped to fourth place as Atalanta moved a point ahead after a 2-0 win over Monza. Parma is in 14th place with nine points.

Parma, which has won just once this season, took the lead in the third minute with a header from Enrico Delprato, which Juventus equalized with a goal from Weston McKennie in the 31st minute.

Simon Sohm put the visitors back in the lead seven minutes later, but Juventus responded again four minutes after the break with a volley from Timothy Weah.

Parma started quickly and after moving the ball up the pitch from a corner, Adrián Bernabé’s cross into the penalty area was deflected back across goal by Botond Balogh and Delprato headed into the net.

Juventus should have equalized 10 minutes later after Zion Suzuki parried a McKennie header, but when the rebound fell to Dusan Vlahovic he somehow sent his shot over the bar.

McKennie made no mistake, however, as his US teammate Weah hurled a ball into the box and sent his header past Suzuki, but Parma were soon back in the lead as Juventus struggled to cope with the visitors’ pace.

Dennis Man collected a long ball in the box and delivered the perfect pass for Sohm, who slotted past Di Gregorio and they retained their lead until half-time.

Juventus’ unbeaten record was at stake, but they equalized again shortly after half-time. Khephren Thuram broke through from midfield before passing past Francisco Conceição’s goal, whose cross was volleyed home by Weah from close range.

Parma created a chance late on but Gabriel Charpentier was denied by Di Gregorio and in stoppage time Juventus looked set to claim the winner but Delprato parried a last-minute shot from Kenan Yildiz.
