Former President Bill Clinton campaigns for Vice President Harris in Benton Harbor

Former President Bill Clinton (D) stopped in Benton Harbor Wednesday afternoon as he campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris in the final stretch before Election Day.

Clinton hosted a community conversation where she addressed voters on important issues and encouraged more people to vote.

Hundreds were there to see the former president, and some people waited in line for over two hours to see him.

Clinton addressed the crowd on important issues in Michigan and urged them to encourage people to vote for Kamala Harris.

Bill Clinton addressed many key issues in Benton Harbor, including infrastructure, the economy, renewable energy and healthcare.

He credited Harris with the grant awarded to Benton Harbor earlier this year to remove the lead pipes.

“You just got the money to get rid of all your lead pipes. When we talk about infrastructure, this is an important aspect of infrastructure,” Clinton said.

His visit was part of a visit to West Michigan. Clinton made stops in Muskegon and South Haven before landing in Benton Harbor.

The reason for visiting Benton Harbor was because Berrien County is considered a Purple County.

This was the first time a sitting president or former president came to Benton Harbor.

Despite the party or age, many people came to see the former president.

“Well, I’m 21 years old. I wasn’t alive during Clinton’s presidency, and it just seems like a wonderful opportunity to see a piece of history and be here for it,” said Leo Kaplan, campaign participant.

The event took place in the Benton Harbor Art District outside of the Livery.

Over 500 people registered to take part and only 250 were accepted.

Still, people surrounded the gated community to watch.

The owner of The Livery said he was honored to be a part of the day.

“I’m just very excited, like I said, and honored to be part of this campaign. It’s obviously such an important election and everyone needs to vote and I’m pleased to be able to play at least a small part in creating some excitement and getting some people to vote,” said Simon Rusk, owner of The Livery.

The Michigan Republican Party released a statement about the former president’s visit: “Michigan didn’t like what the Clintons had to say in 2016, and Mitten has no reason to listen to them now.” Calling for four more years of higher costs, open borders and Electric vehicle regulations will fall on deaf ears.”

Both candidates have five days to reach voters before Election Day.
